Hello, I'm Michael W.
New author learning the tricks of the trade
The story
I believe it was Stephen King who said that anyone with pain can write a book; but someone with a good memory can become a serial author. Years ago, sitting alone in miring in my own self-pity; I finally decided I had enough. I sat down, opened up my word processor, and started writing. Two years later, I finally looked up, and realized I had written nearly 6 full books charged with emotionally laden content. After receiving some incredible feedback from a professional editor; it gave me hope that my first novel actually had something. She kept repeating that: "there is just something about your writing". For someone with a novice interest in writing, this sparked a belief in me that perhaps my novels were worth pursuing publishing.
Hello, my name is Michael. If you are reading this, I am grateful to meet you here in this format. What would be even more meaningful is if we someday collaborated on this project together. I have come to find that people, connection, and passion for purpose are intimately woven into my values, personhood, and projects. Right now, I am working on a series called: "Charlie's Adventures"; a coming of age story about a young dog who experiences trauma from birth to adulthood.
Who knows, someday these books could sit alongside my favorites like: "Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, and Lord of the Rings". Perhaps that is a high ceiling to set. I don't or won't presume anything; nor do I need that level of validation to know that my work has meaning and purpose. Yet, my inner child smiles at the thought of traveling around the world to do book signings and events. Regardless, I am grateful, so overwhelmingly inspired by fellow authors who pour their hearts and souls into their work as I have.
God Bless, Michael

As a writer/counsellor... it's always very special when you work with someone who has come from the darkness of a difficult place, a very challenging situation... and into the light with fantastic natural writing skill and a truly beautiful idea, on which to work those skills. It was a privelege working with Michael. Sensitive. Insightful. Skilled. And with a unique story which the World needs to hear. Every story needs to be trimmed and polished and the shine of it revealed... that's a simple fact! But to find one as original, moving, and joyous as Michael's, is a real discovery. We were able to... ~Rationalise the novels Prologue and the need not to give away too much of your storyline, but to slowly reveal central themes in a more tempting and clever way. ~Discuss the importance of 'showing not telling...' and how to dismantle a large and detailed portion of World Building /History to deliver it in a far more accessible and sensitive way to the reader. ~Create an empathic character who could be critical in the main characters growth and sojourn. ~Review the importance of another leading character... and to make sure that he is more visible in the book, but not jarringly so. And that his appearances in the manuscript add to the story and do not detract from it. ~Discuss the ending of book, One of proposed series of Six... and the importance of literary hooks and satisfying conclusions to draw prospective readers through a series of books. On Saturday I helped him to trim and polish a Diamond. To uncover it's clarity. Brighten it's facets. I Iove his story... and I love my job in supporting him. Andy Oakes. 👍
